PLAYING IT SAFE is a national award winning program that has been educating children in the New York area since it's inception in 1982. This creative program is predicated on the philosophy that children can be educated to keep themselves safe without frightening them.

Appropriate for children from Pre-K through Second grade, PLAYING IT SAFE focuses on safety issues in and out of the home. Topics include: gun safety, chemical/food container look alikes, stranger awareness and good and bad touch. Special attention and emphasis is spent on over the counter medications that look like candy.

Presentations are 40 minutes and utilize puppets, colorful posters and other visual aids. Materials that can be purchased include a PLAYING IT SAFE coloring book, a certificate of completion, an emergency phone card, a fingerprint/identification kit and a Safety Tips brochure for his/her caregiver.

PLAYING IT SMART is the next level in educating children regarding their personal safety. Appropriate for children in grades 3 through 8, PLAYING IT SMART is a more sophisticated curriculum dealing with more mature safety concepts. Issues include Abduction, Internet safety, and Cyberbullying. Current issues such as dangers inherent in web sites such as Myspace.com, cell phones, cameraphones and webcams are discussed.

As children grow older, the old advice of "never talk to strangers" becomes implausible as they become more independent in their world. PLAYING IT SMART teaches children to spot potentially dangerous situations and to respond accordingly. To engage the children and reinforce key issues, presenters use role-playing scenarios. For example, as part of the presentation the children are shown a false Police badge and Clergy identification to demonstrate the ease with which these can be obtained and used for deception.

TEEN PERSONAL SAFETY - 411
Is a forty minute presentation for 9th and 10th graders focusing on the topics of Internet Safety and Dating Abuse. Consequences of social networking sites are examined, using real-life stories and events. The "cycle of abuse" will be explained and students will be taught how to identify and leave abusive situations as well as how to help a friend do the same.

PARENT / TEACHER WORKSHOPS
Parent workshops are available which specifically focus on Internet safety and abduction. It is imperative that parents are educated on the safety issues facing their children and how to properly teach them to be safe. Regular review by the parent also reinforces and solidifies safety awareness. These workshops are appropriate for parents as well as educators.

These programs are available in you area for:
Schools
Organizations
Camps
Libraries etc.
